  1. I follow your blog regularly. Was struck by your concurrent readings of Crime and Punishment and All the King’s Men. I read both books a while ago; actually liked All the King’s Men better ( probably heretical to say so!) There are passages from All the King’s Men that I still remember. Even the one about the old dog with the bad breath on the front porch!

  2. I remember that old dog scene because it’s the only one that made me laugh out loud. Made me think of that scene in Faulkner’s The Reivers with the men sitting around the campfire, passing gas. I think Warren could have followed Faulkner into tragicomedy and comedy if he had wanted to. Thanks for commenting, Anne.
